  2. Toggle it on if disabled; if active, toggle off then on to reset.

2. Restart Your PC

A restart clears temporary files and resets system processes, resolving potential conflicts with the overlay. Close all apps and restart to refresh resources.

3. Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated drivers often cause overlay issues. Update via:

Manual Update

  1. Visit NVIDIA's download page.

  1. Enter your GPU model (find in Device Manager > Display adapters).

  1. Download and install the latest driver for your Windows version.

Automatic Update

  1. Open GeForce Experience and go to the "Drivers" tab.

  1. Click "Download" and "Install" for available updates.

4. Disable Conflicting Apps

Third-party overlays (Discord, Spotify, OBS) may interfere:

  • Spotify: Disable "Show desktop overlay" in Settings > Display options, and turn off hardware acceleration in advanced settings.

  • Others: Close Discord (disable its overlay in Settings), OBS, or screen-capture tools. Test which app conflicts by re-enabling one at a time.

5. Install Windows Updates

Windows updates fix software compatibility issues:

  1. Open Settings (Windows + I) > "Update & Security".

  1. Click "Check for updates" and install any available ones, then restart.

6. Run as Administrator

Grant admin rights to GeForce Experience:

  1. Right-click its shortcut > "Run as administrator".

  1. To set permanently: Right-click > Properties > Compatibility > Check "Run as administrator".

7. Fix Visual C++ Redistributables

Corrupted packages disrupt functionality:

  1. Uninstall all Visual C++ versions via Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.

  1. Reinstall from Microsoft's site (match your Windows bit version).

8. Adjust Windows Graphics Settings

Set high performance for NVIDIA processes:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Display > "Graphics settings".

  1. Add "NVIDIA Share.exe" or "NVIDIA Overlay.exe" (found in C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience).

  1. Select the file, click "Options", and choose "High performance".

9. Reset GeForce Experience

Clear corrupted settings:

  1. Close GeForce Experience.

  1. Press Windows + R, type %localappdata%\NVIDIA Corporation\NetService, and delete "settings.json".

  1. Restart GeForce Experience to regenerate default settings.

10. Reinstall GeForce Experience

If all else fails:

  1. Uninstall via Settings > Apps > "NVIDIA GeForce Experience".

  1. Delete leftover folders: C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience and %localappdata%\NVIDIA Corporation\NetService.

  1. Reinstall from NVIDIA's site, then re-enable the overlay.
